Troop 601 History
Troop 601 was restarted in 1999 by Scoutmaster Ed Wedman. Seeing a need for a place to crossover Webelos from Cub scouts and for boys of scout age to join together in south Newark, Troop 601 reformed after an absence of over 10 years. Since 1999, our troop has grown from 5 scouts to over 30 scouts. Troop 601 has had over 100 boys who have worn the Troop 601 patch on their shoulder. We have had over 200 events and have visited 8 different summer camps in those ten years. Seven young men have earned the rank of Eagle Scout under the direction of four different Scoutmasters.
Through our 10 year history, we have continued to follow the 8 methods of scouting and have held high the values of the Boy Scouts of America. Troop 601 has strived to be a service oriented troop including a strong participation in the Order of the Arrow. We also have strived to have both our scouts and leaders trained to teach others the scouting values.
Troop 601 has experienced 10 years of scouting, 10 years of commitment to youth and community, and 10 years of fun and adventure. We look forward to what the next 10 years will bring.
